About > Kaua‘i School Garden Network

Planting the seeds for our future…one school garden at a time.

A school garden is a simple solution to keeping our children healthy, our food local, and our community engaged.

In a school garden we are not only growing food, “we are growing people.”

~Gigi Cocquio

School gardens are a unique opportunity for our keiki to learn how to grow their own food, cook the food they grow, and foster life-long healthy eating habits. There is a school in every garden where the desks turn into clipboards and the textbooks come to life. While teachers use these living laboratories to reinforce academic curriculum, the natural world teaches these students about patience, cooperation, and responsibility, all integral facets of a successful garden.

The Kaua‘i School Garden Network is a central hub dedicated to supporting our schools and communities. Rather than create another project for teachers to take on, the Kaua‘i School Garden Network is determined to make school gardens an easy reality for busy teachers. By connecting schools with community experts, volunteers, resources, and training, school gardens become a gathering point for students to engage in their education academically, socially, and healthfully.

It will take support from across the island to provide all of our keiki with the education they deserve. Let us all proudly say, “We have taught our keiki well!” Whether it is a helping hand, mana‘o and expertise, or a donation, your effort will make a difference in the lives of many. We can all work together to help plant the seeds of the future... one school garden at a time.
