Many of our keiki do not get the full serving of fruits and veggies needed to grow strong, stay healthy, and concentrate well in school. Bringing snack programs to schools not only nourish our keiki, but help teach them about making healthy choices in snack foods. The schools on Kaua’i need your help to bring healthy and local food snacks to our students.
How to help?
- Are your fruit trees loaded? Why not donate them to a school? We’ll help you find volunteers to pick the fruit and deliver!
- Help connect us with a farmer who is willing to donate produce.
- Donate to our program so we can purchase produce for the kids. CLICK HERE TO DONATE to the KEEP IT LOCAL SNACK PROGRAM
- Help prepare the produce for snack time!
No garden experience necessary! The kids would love to spend time with you in the garden, and the plants would really appreciate some extra kokua. Volunteers are welcome during school hours, afterschool and on weekends! The more volunteers we have in a school garden, the more our students will harvest from the experience!
Help out at garden parties
Check out our calendar (LINK) to lend a helping hand at School Garden Work Parties so we can do some of the heavy-duty or more time-consuming garden work. Kids are always welcome!
Volunteer your expertise
We are looking for professionals in the community to share their expertise with students and garden teachers. Many of our teachers are just starting to learn about gardening and need your help! The students would also LOVE to have you visit their class as a guest speaker!
Ideas of expertise needed:
- Farmers and Garden Enthusiasts
- Food, Trees, Medicinal Plants, Livestock etc.
- Native Plants and Ethnobotany
- Hawaiian Culture and Story Telling
- Irrigation Systems
- Permaculture and Organic Gardening
- Beekeeping
- Conservation
- Composting and Soil Building
- Natural Pest Remedies
- WORMS!
A school garden could always use a tractor for preparing land, a truck for hauling materials, and tools to add the finishing touches!
