The idea behind the Kilauea Town Action Plan was to look at a single Kauai town, ask the residents what was important to them, such as what kinds of community projects they would most like to see and, using sustainable practices as a framework, assist them to move their ideas ahead. Below is a timeline of this process and where the community is at with the projects.

The 50 projects that the Kilauea Community was interested in were researched and are posted here for your review. We are currently holding meetings at the Malama Kauai Community Resource Center, formerly known as Guava Kai. If you are interested in any of the projects please contact Katie Paul, our Volunteer Coordinator, using our contact page.

The Kilauea Town Action Plan will include how-to's on each of the 50 or so items area residents said were important to them for the town of Kilauea (see other dates below). Malama Kauai's understands that people just don't have the time to think about all the steps it takes to implement their good ideas. We do feel that with alittle research to take the unknowns out of the equation and provide inspirational next steps that the community themselves are willing to take action and see the projects through. Our project boards will illustrate how, with focused effort, the community's ideas can be realized.

We are putting together our presentation for the community in the form of interactive project boards and a picnic in the heart of Kilauea; the Dispensory Park. Join us on Sunday, April 6th, 4pm, for live music and food. Bring a blanket, your family and a willingness to do a little to get alot where you can see the difference of your efforts everyday - in your backyard!

The Kilauea Town Plan (PDF), developed through community consensus and adopted over a year ago by the County Council and Mayor, details the future hopes of Kilauea residents. The main points described in the Plan were the need to provide affordable housing , maintain our rural character and preserve open space .
Other concerns include how we as a community can:
- Provide our own healthy, local food supply
- Generate a portion of our own energy needs
- Preserve our agricultural lands and water resources
- Help to grow and support local businesses so that we can provide more opportunity for everyone, especially the youth
The goal of this meeting is to craft and launch a master action plan on how to realize the dream set out in the Town Plan as we move into the future.
Please come out, your voice is important!
