Part-time Program Assistant, SNAP @ Farmers Markets
We’re seeking an outgoing and detail-oriented Program Assistant to help us operate the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) at select Kaua`i farmers markets. This is a great opportunity to connect local people with nutritious, local food grown on island. The impact of this program is incredible and highly rewarding – you’ll be helping to drive dollars to local farmers while supporting the food and nutrition needs of our community by promoting healthful use of SNAP funds.
This is a part-time position, approximately 8 hours per week, covering the Kapa`a and Kilauea markets, at a rate of $13.50 per hour. The position will start immediately. On occasion, staff must be flexible to cover each other’s shift for emergency situations. Position may be extended or expanded to other programs for someone with strong interest, self-motivation and an entrepreneurial spirit.
YOU WILL BE:
- Providing EBT/SNAP processing services at Kapa`a (Wed., 2p-5:30p) and Kilauea (Thurs., 3p-6:30p) Sunshine farmers markets, and attending weekly staff meeting on Wednesday at 1pm
- Transporting, setting up, and tearing down booth and promotional materials
- Processing SNAP/food stamp payments for tokens to be used for produce purchases by residents and redeemed by food vendors
- Completing end of shift paperwork and reporting
- Providing information and outreach to promote Malama Kaua`i initiatives
YOU NEED TO HAVE:
- An overabundance of aloha spirit, outgoing energy, and self-motivation
- Previous experience in outreach, administrative support, or similar work
- A reliable vehicle and access to a computer for post-market paperwork
- Ability to follow through on commitments and remain reliable at all times
- Physical ability to transport, set-up, and teardown pop-up tent, table and booth materials
- Multilingual skills, such as Hawaiian, Tagalog or Ilocano are a HUGE plus
