AmeriCorps Project Coordinator (Kalihiwai)

Malama Kaua`i’s AmeriCorps Project Coordinator will build the capacity of Kaua`i island’s VISTA programs by playing a strategic leadership role in the recruitment, retention, and performance of VISTA members. Our members serve in a variety of programs supporting food access, fighting hunger, providing nutrition, and engaging youth in education.

This position is 19 hours per week at $15 to 20 per hour based on experience, is located at our Kalihiwai Community Farm, and begins in August 2018.

YOU WILL:

Support VISTA recruitment:

  1. Work effectively with the Malama Kaua‘i staff in order to plan impactful and effective VISTA opportunities that aim to attract local candidates
  2. Promote VISTA opportunities through a variety of outreach methods including, but not limited to, newsletter, website, social media, online volunteer job boards, community networking, and in-person outreach
  3. Participate in the VISTA screening, interviewing, and selection process
  4. Develop relevant VISTA training and orientation materials, and help new VISTAs settle into their communities

Support VISTA retention:

  1. Help to plan and conduct on-site orientation, Staff Meetings, and ongoing training/team building opportunities for VISTA members
  2. Provide VISTAs with daily/weekly guidance, information, and attention
  3. Assist VISTAs in overcoming barriers that lead to early termination

Support VISTA performance:

  1. Facilitate information sharing and peer learning, increasing the capacity of VISTAs to complete their work plans and reach their goals successfully
  2. Develop team spirit among Kaua`i VISTAs
  3. Assist in tracking and reporting on weekly/monthly/quarterly VISTA project metrics

YOU SHOULD HAVE:

  • Previous administrative experience and strong computer skills, including Google Docs
  • Strong skills in mentoring, motivating, and inspiring others
  • A warm, outgoing, aloha spirit balanced with a results-oriented focus
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Long-term residency on Kaua‘i and Hawaiian cultural competency preferred
