Update: Breadfruit Rescue Workshop 2019 Canceled –
Join Village Harvest’s new initiative for sustainable fresh food access:
The Giving Tree Project
Village Harvest’s mission is to expand accessibility to fresh food on the island for those in need. What better way to do this than grow fruit trees in spaces such as churches, schools and community centers that are already identified as food assistance centers? We are in need of volunteers to “adopt” an ‘ulu tree to be transplanted from the Malama Kaua‘i farm to these community spaces.
As a Giving Tree Nursery volunteer you will be given resources to provide a short training on how to transplant keiki breadfruit trees growing at the Malama Kaua‘i Farm.
Adopt a breadfruit tree as a representative from an organization, church group, or school that can provide access to fresh fruit to the surrounding community.
Want to help behind the scenes? We need gardening and agriculture enthusiasts to help build educational and training resources on transplanting and caring for ‘ulu trees to foster healthy trees that produce healthy crops. This is a great opportunity for those who are in or graduated from UH CTAHR’s Master Gardener program to share their knowledge and skills.
