ACTION ALERT: Radio Show / Town Level Sustainability Planning

There are two events coming up in this next week we'd like to invite you to join in...

• Senator Hooser on the Sustainability Radio Show this Friday, noon - 1:00 PM on KKCR, 91.9 FM / www.KKCR.org
  On Friday we talk with Kauai's Senator Gary Hooser about the 2008 Legislative Session which opens next week. We'll discuss what the legislative session is, how one might get involved and affect the process at varying levels and what is on the Senator's short list of issues he's championing on behalf of Kauai. This should be a highly informative hour about the community's voice in government.
  
  
• World Class Sustainability Planners Assist with an Action Plan for Kilauea
  Malama Kauai hosts a team from WSP Environmental who will be facilitating meetings focused on the North Shore town of Kilauea during the week of January 14th. The team, headed by Edward Quevedo, has performed sustainability planning for places such as Vancouver BC, Portland OR and Ithaca NY to name a few.
  
  As part of the collaborative approach, we're holding a public meeting which is open to all members of the community. The event will take place at the Kilauea Neighborhood Gym the evening of Tuesday, January 15, starting at 7:00 PM. This meeting will cover how to sustainably address the town's need for affordable housing, energy, food, proper land use all while building the local economy. Everyone that might be interested in community level sustainability planning, even those not from Kilauea, are invited to attend. Ideally, we document this integrated process in a way that the results can be easily shared with and used by those that would like to do the same in their own communities.
  
  

It's time to take the ideas, information and inspiration we've gained throughout the last year and move it into action and inplementation in 2008. Looking forward to a big year!
